A FREE, all day event featuring the best Baltimore has to offer in modern, jazz, ballet, hip hop,
ethnic dance and more, returns for a third exciting year. Dance Baltimore, at its new location,
The Hippodrome Theatre, 12 North Eutaw Street, is set for Saturday, May 7, 2005 offering
the theme “I Hope You Dance.” Awarded “Best Dance Event in Baltimore” by Baltimore
Magazine in its first year (2003), Dance Baltimore plans an even more explosive event for
2005.

The day includes dance classes for all levels of participants in modern, line dance and Hip
Hop, storytelling with Maria “The Storydancer” Broom, vendor displays, food, prizes, a concert
of award winning youth ensembles, fashion show of magnificent performance wear, awards
ceremony and reception for the Baltimore Dance Treasures Award, and a presentation of
local professional companies. Sandy Mallory of WEAA FM Radio will host the afternoon youth
concert while Maria Broom will fulfill the services for the evening performance.

The Baltimore Dance Treasures Awards 2005 will celebrate the lifetime achievements of Eva
Anderson, Eva Anderson Dancers and Chrystelle Bond, Goucher College.

Youth ensembles performing at the 2 p.m. presentation on May 7 are Baltimore City College
High School, Baltimore Dance Tech, Coppin University Dancers, Morton Street Dance Center,
Towson Children’s Division, and Western High School. Professional local ensembles to be
featured in the 8 p.m. concert include Arte Flamenco, Ballet Theatre of Maryland, Guardian: An
African American Dance Preservation Project, Natya Kala Mandir East Indian Dance, Phoenix
Dance Company, Return to Goree African Dance, Shange Dance Productions, Stephanie
Powell DanseEnsemble and The Collective.

Dance Baltimore! is a community program presented by The Hippodrome Foundation and
Dance Baltimore, a dance service organization, with support from the Baltimore Community
Foundation and the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance. Through its Community Outreach and
Education Programs, The Hippodrome Foundation provides professional performance space
to local artists in an effort to recognize local talent and to inform audiences of the immensely
talented artists living and working in the Baltimore metropolitan area.
